What a good shift handover actually contains

Most handover notes are a list of what happened. The useful ones are a list of what has not finished.

The four things

• chevron_rightOpen items with a name attached — not 'AC issue in 501' but 'AC in 501, Karthik returning at 9 with a part'.
• chevron_rightAnything a guest was promised, with the time it was promised for.
• chevron_rightRooms to avoid or handle carefully, and why.
• chevron_rightArrivals in the next few hours, especially anything unusual.

Everything else — how busy it was, how the night went — is context the incoming shift will pick up in ten minutes anyway. The handover screen in Staywally asks for exactly these four and nothing more, and the notes got noticeably shorter and more useful the month we made that change.
